Further Education – Vocational Courses

As an alternative to private education, international students can select a state sixth-form college or a college of further education. Both provide GCSE and A-level programs to students starting at age 16. Further education colleges also provide foundation and diploma programs. Students can be prepared for admission to a UK university or any university in the world at any college. Bright World collaborates with a number of UK state colleges that offer a wide range of academic and vocational courses. These programs can help students advance in their chosen fields of study or secure admission to the universities of their choice.

The British educational system also includes BTEC courses, which are intended for students who find traditional exams difficult and would like to gain practical knowledge and skills in a particular subject (business, psychology, engineering, sport, art, and design). The BTEC students are evaluated throughout the course with an emphasis on practical, skills-based learning. Students are evaluated through assignments, tasks, or tests at the conclusion of each unit rather than at the end of the program as it is with GCSE or A-Level students.

Vocational-courses

⇒ International students may choose to enroll in one-year foundation programs starting at age 17 in place of IB or A levels. As an alternative to A levels, these courses result in private exams. Universities with which colleges have partnerships recognize their foundation courses.

⇒ Some universities also provide introductory courses that serve as a springboard for their own degree programs.

⇒ Bright World can assist in placing students into Foundation and Diploma courses in London and throughout the UK thanks to partnerships with a number of colleges and Pathway providers.

⇒ A British bachelor’s degree typically takes three years to complete in the UK, and the majority of them are awarded at the honors level. Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), and Bachelor of Science (BSc) are examples of first degrees (Bachelor of Science).

⇒ Some two-year vocational diplomas that exempt students from the first and, occasionally, second years of a degree program are offered by state colleges. A one-year diploma program, offered by some private tutorial colleges, is equivalent to the first year of a university. Some universities offer second-year admission to students who complete one-year diplomas.

⇒ The postgraduate curriculum in the UK is very rigorous. This indicates that compared to other countries, the courses are typically much shorter. A master’s degree, such as an MA in the arts or an MEng in engineering, typically requires 12 months to complete. Master of Business Administration, or MBA, is a prestigious Master’s program that can last two years. Typically, applicants will have a strong academic record and at least two years of managerial experience. In the UK, it can take two to seven years to complete a Ph.D. research degree.
